Sound Blaster Z Drivers

Creatives external USB sound cards marketed to gamers have worked as well as all the other more professional/audiophile interfaces and sound cards when I tested them. If it absolutely has to be one from Creative or Asus then it should be USB. This way you'll only have to deal with USB Audio Class, which is in good shape on Linux and other operating systems., instead of any broken drivers or features which internal gaming sound cards have become known for since the 2000s. There has been no benefit in having a internal (gaming) sound card for years. I hope this message finally reaches the remaining few users who still think they need to have such a device in their computer because of the (and be able to run Linux/non-Windows OS).Except for USB audio devices which have to be loaded with a firmware by the host every time they are connected to work correctly.

Dear Ryan,Please have a look at the Sound Blaster Z, it has been over two years since there has been any driver updates, some of us have had issues with it, others lucky enough to not have any issues with the latest Windows Update. But I'm sure thousands of owners would love to see an updated driver for our soundcard, we'd happily test beta drivers too if they're available.Alongside a driver update ( our most important request), we're hoping for a re-design of the SB Control Panel, similar to that of the Creative Sound BlasterX AE-5. Maybe an update for Scout Mode too for us.The card isn't discontinued, it's still for sale in many regions of the world, and the driver support for it has been sub-par at best.Thank you, and we hope to hear from you guys in return regarding any updates.Regards, Guru3D Forums, TweakTown, Whirlpool, Overclock.net and HardwareHeaven users. I saw a comment by Ryan from 29 days ago going through this sub-reddit saying there's developer builds of an updated driver for the Sound Blaster Z, I'm honestly just hoping for an update. After reading many people's issues with the latest Windows Update I have put it on hold waiting for a driver update or an update regarding a time frame of when to expect one. I would happily test a beta/alpha version of the drivers and report back any issues, I am sure hundreds of us would if it means we get faster driver updates.

That driver version Windows 10 updated me with only updated the 'Sound Blaster Audio Controller' in the device manager. It didn't update the 'Sound Blaster Z'. Prior drivers work fine, like I said, but these news are causing problems like the overclock forum says as well.

When I have updates on this series of cards you all will be the first ones to hear it.We regularly add features to products and make fixes to our ranges well after launch. The Z card is 7 years old now for reference. You're going to be hard pressed to find hardware companies that support their product range through as many iterations and OS's as we do.I'll update here when I have more info from the dev team. The Z series is a long-standing card in our lineup and is still supported as such.

The point is, the 7 year old card is still sold everywhere (even at Creative's own website) and at a premium for a 7 year old card. Creative is known for being lazy and brushing people off.Frankly, I was happy creative has come on reddit to listen to our voices, it keeps creative on their toes. It did, for the G6 issues that the community was largely concerned about.

After that, creative has lost touch and went into hibernation again.I've always had an after taste everytime I buy a creative product that they will stop updating after a while ever since the 90's. I'm not sure what answer you're looking for here. I've already noted that we've heard the comments and they've been reported to the Devs. We're not brushing anyone off here and are quite far from being in 'hibernation'. We support our products long after their launch dates and ensure that the feature sets they are sold with at the time work as best as they can in the current paradigm.which is ever changing. In fact, I'm working on feedback and communication currently for the Xfi series of cards which is over 10 years old.

Which is Vista and win 7 timeline. We also add features when we can that are relevant to said hardware. As I noted earlier. When i have updates pertaining to the Z series I'll be posting them up here immediately. Did you know that Recon, Z, AE-5 and even integrated Sound Core 3D use the same microcontroller. So if Creative wanted they could make a Recon work with AE-5 driver very easily. How do I know that? Cards have been reverse engineered to create a Linux driver, and all of those do use the same one. The 8051 microcontroller is the same, the verbs you send to it are almost 100% the same (AE-5 has some new ones to control RGB) and the firmware is almost the same.

Only difference are the DSPs, amplifiers and the hardware stuff, but from the driver stand point there are exactly the same. You are right, it probably isn't.I just studied the linux drivers, and when he made drivers for Z series just a few lines were needed to add AE-5 and Recon support. And it isn't like those are so simple because they lack features. On linux I can adjust from surround to Crystallizer. Also from curiosity I asked the creator of linux drivers and he confirmed that this the same 8051 and all cards use the same verbs. So maybe it isn't as easy, but also they aren't completely different products as I originally thought and share the core component.

AE-5 has better components than previous generation cards. It costs the same as the Soundblaster cards with better hardware essentially right now. So anyone who wants to buy a soundcard, and they're looking at creative, they'll go with the newer, better, more optimised card anyway. It's about keeping the customers you already have satisfied.

There are people who purchased the Soundblaster cards in 2017 for example who haven't received a single update even though there has been multiple generational updates to the Operating Systems out there in that timespan. So for those who had issues for example after updating their Windows to the latest versions, and they know ( based on their experience) that creative could cut support for a card at any point in time after they release a new card, why would they purchase from Creative again? They'd switch to ASUS or buy external DAC/AMPS.By cutting support for such extensive periods, you cut customers out, from what you already mentioned, a diminished market.

I'd like to throw myself in here too, recently started suffering dropouts with the SBZ and the most recent version of Win10 x64 1903. I've noticed that when it happens a 'ghost' SBZ device appears in Device Manager along with the actual device, so it looks like the card is being reinstalled in the background by Windows when the issue happens.Tried reseating the card, fresh install of Windows and the problem persists. Tried it another PC with an earlier version of Win10 and it had no issues. So seems to be the Windows update causing the problem. Windows 10 1903 Update just broke Dolby Digital Live and DTS Connect for me with the Sound Blaster Z. Says 'The task requires exclusive use of your audio device.

Please stop playback and try again.' When trying to select either or in Cinematic Menu. So I'm stuck with the No Encoder option. Meaning no sound coming out of my Home Theater. So I can't use the 5.1 Speakers feature, and I'm stuck with SPDIF-OUT and 2.0 audio. Had I known, I would never have 'upgraded'.

To make matters worst, I deleted the roll-back Windows files, so I can't go back. Why does Microsoft always have to mess with the audio layer of it's OSes?

Always troubles with them. By the way, I don't blame Creative for this. Everything worked fine on 1809 for me, even though the drivers are from 2017. It's clearly Microsoft's fault, as they even have issues on their own priority Dolby Atmos Access feature with this new update. And I'll never forget when they broke EAX with their newly introduced sound layer with Vista and onward. But if Creative can do anything about it, that would be awesome. I don't count on MS fixing anything third party related (even though the real issue most likely comes from their end), at least for a foreseeable future.

I disagree to some extent. Creative is still marketing the card. They know Microsoft is releasing major updates every 6 months. That's 100% on Creative. They can get preview releases and address these issues. The fact that the issue has happened for numerous people EVERY major release goes back to Creative for not working with Microsoft. This is two plus years of the same issue, except this time reinstalling the driver doesn't fix it (for me).Throw Microsoft under the bus all you want but Creative deserves just as much, if not more blame for passing the buck down the line.

This is probably the last Creative product I purchase as the only thing I can do is use my headphones.
